How to Write a Graduate CV

A CV which is known as a curriculum vitae is a document which contains high level information and detail about your achievements. On the average, every recruiter spends approximately 75secs to read your CV, so you have just over a minute to land yourself an aptitude test or an interview.

Most CVs are disqualified mostly because of bad grammar, bad spelling or poor visual layout. You need to make sure you use clear font styles, a font size that is greater than 11px. Your CV shouldn’t be less than two pages and not more than three pages.

Format of writing a graduate CV

Now, let’s take a critical look at each point and the kind of information you are expected to provide

HEADING: the information you are to provide in the heading are

Name – this must be in capital letters, bold and centralised

Address – use an address that is closest to the recruitment, but make sure it exists

Email – ensure your email address is functional

There are other relevant details you can provide such as your sex, marital status, age, state of origin, nationality, etc

PERSONAL STATEMENT: your personal statement should not be more than five sentences. Avoid buzzwords such as ‘team player’ ‘dynamic’. Be positive, lively and on point. Your personal statement plays the same role that a movie trailer does to a new movie. It what attracts the recruiter to you and encourages him to see you as a qualified candidate. Ensure you are objective and straight to the point. It must cover the following;

Who you are – that is your skills and training you acquired

What you can do – this explains what you can do for the company or what you have done in the past

Career aims – this explains what you are looking out for, what you wish to achieve

EDUCATION: just after your personal statement comes your educational background/qualifications. Again, make sure you start with your most recent education. Here is a way to write it;

Qualification _______ Subject grade _______(in brackets)

Institution ___________________________________

Dates _____________________________

WORK EXPERIENCE: as a graduate, you may not have much work experiences to put in your CV, but you need to be intelligent. The format for writing this section of your CV is given below. Ensure you start with your most recent job

Job title ____________________________________

Employer ________________ Date __________(in brackets)

Employer address ____________________

Major duties accomplished _________________________

HONOURS: here if you have participated in a competition or whatsoever and you received an award, you rightly put it in this section of your CV. Below is the format for it;

Award title ______________________________

Institution _________________________________

Date ________________________

ACTIVITIES: if you participated in any social activity for example, being a member of Rotary club, SUG etc, this is where you include it.

CERTIFICATES/LICENCES: if you have gone through a professional training and acquired a certificate in such programs you include those certificates in this section. Or you attain a professional licence, you also include them here. Ensure you start with the most recent. Below is a format to write this

Name of certificate _________________________

Name of agency _______________________________

Dates _________________________________________

PUBLICATIONS: peradventure you have published an academic work, it could be your project/seminar work, a book or an article. Ensure to include them in this section and provide sources where such publications can be reached.

PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIP: if you are part of a professional body, for example Nigerian Society of Engineers, Nigerian Institute of Management, ICAN etc., also ensure you start with the most recent.

SPECIAL SKILLS: feel free to list some of your special skills, which are relevant to the job you’re applying for. Skills such as good team player, good communication skills, computer skills should be included along with other skills.

REFERENCES: before including anyone as your reference, ensure you contact the person prior to that time. But it is more professional not to include anyone in this section of your CV, rather you simply put ‘will be provided upon request’

How strong, pungent and obligatory the wordings of the first stanza of the NYSC anthem is. Simply summarizing some of the national ethics and mandating the youths to be enlisted for national service and doing so with patriotism and humility.

Every fresh graduate in tertiary institutions in Nigeria always desires to one day answer this clarion call for national service through the opportunity provided by the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC).

I have decided to speak with corps members(corper/ajuwaya) serving in different states in the federation to actually get their own version of how the service year looks like.

Here is a story of a passionate and patriotic female corper serving in Bauchi state, though, she didn’t want to share all the experiences, but shared just these few moments of her service year so far. I hope you will enjoy it;

My experience as a Corper has been filled with different moments: the good moments, the bad moments, even funny moments that will make me want to remain a Corper. Let me start with the bad moments first;

The Bad Moments

The news that I was posted to Bauchi was at some point breathcrushing (if at all that word exists) and the thought of travelling with the night bus to and fro looked like a nightmare to me. During one of the travels, our bus broke down around 11pm in the middle of nowhere so we had to sleep in the bush. Around 1pm armed robbers started operation but thank God they didn’t get to our bus. When day broke and there was no hope of repairing the vehicle, nor transferring to another bus, I flagged down a taxi that took me to the nearest town where I made some withdrawals (thank God for ATM) and continued with my journey that’s with another bus and of course another t/fare. Fortunately, I was able to get to the orientation safely (all glory be to God). While in camp, in my platoon, a male otondo ran mad as a result of Indian hemp (igbo) smoking though it was not destructive, but he was decamped immediately.

E don do jor! make I enter the good part.

The Good Moments

Do u still remember about my taxi experience to camp? Tor!

I didn’t know that one of the passengers was among the cook until I went to collect food on the queue the woman was in charge. When she saw me, she gave me a hug and introduced me to other cooks telling them how nice I was to her in the taxi (it pays to be good). Immediately she packed meat and poured into my soup and it became a regular practice all through my stay in camp.

After camp, I spent the whole day trying to locate my PPA. When evening came, the keke man that has been driving me around being an Igbo man with family offered to accommodate me for that day. That same evening, I located my church which gave me an apartment to stay Free of charge! Wow, God is really great!

Yes, I promised to share my funny moments with u as well.

The Funny Moments

I have been turned into a sign language teacher though I teach chemistry, but how will these Muslim children understand without sign language? So, I use one period i.e. 35mins to explain and demonstrate a simple sentence in chemistry, God help me. Finally, I now have a Hausa tongue as I now pronounce pipty naira (#50) etc. so as to buy things cheap in the market. Even our vice principal 2 i.e. VP 2, I now call him bise 2 just to mingle with the northern teachers.

Oh NYSC, a clarion call to answer! I drop my pen for now

Corpers Weee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Spanish Fly: How Grave Are The Risks?

libido fly
Spanish Fly

Aphrodisiacs, named after the Greek goddess of love Aphrodite, have one single purpose – to increase the amount of sexual desire you’re feeling at that point in time, and ideally for several hours afterwards. The use of these “love potions” dates back thousands of years to when humans first started tinkering with medicine, and when they first realized what a potent weapon sex and sexual energy can be. Of all the aphrodisiacs that have come into, and vanished out of existence over the centuries, Spanish Fly features as the single most famous, and ultimately the most dangerous, product designed to allegedly increase female arousal and sexual desire.

Spanish Fly itself is not actually made from flies (thankfully I hear you say!), but is instead made from a type of green beetle called the Lytta vesicatoria. Basically the dried remains of these beetles are ground into a fine powder, which is then mixed with a number of other ingredients and then placed in a water or alcohol base. So this allegedly potent aphrodisiac is made from dead insects – there’s no sexual magic or alchemy involved.
There are some historical records which say that Spanish Fly was originally used as a form of anaesthetics given to men on their wedding night. At that time, it was an ointment which was applied to the male genitals to numb them long enough to allow the man to perform sexually for longer, impressing his new wife in the process. It was never, ever designed to be taken internally though, and this is where the health issues really start. Now this goes against everything you see when in adverts for this female libido enhancer, because it’s always supplied as either drops, or sometimes pills, to be taken orally.

There’s a serious problem here because the active ingredient in this aphrodisiac is something called cantharadin, which is actually a severe irritant and blistering agent. In fact, they’re so potent that simply placing a substance containing cantharadin on your skin can cause it to blister almost immediately, so it’s obviously not something you would ever want to drink or take orally.

The most commonly held belief around Spanish Fly is that it was originally used to encourage farm animals to mate (and it was reasonably effective in making this happen), so somebody, somewhere decided that it could be used for the same purpose for human beings. The reason why people think this aphrodisiac might actually work to enhance your sex drive is because it causes irritation in the urinary tract, which then causes blood to rush to your genitals – this rush of blood then being mistaken for sexual arousal. What’s actually happening is that the toxic ingredients in Spanish Fly are poisoning your body in a number of different ways.

The only real reason Spanish Fly has managed to retain some kind of mystical significance as an aphrodisiac is because it’s been banned from sale in most civilized countries – simply because it’s so dangerous. Unfortunately, some people think it’s been banned because it actually works and this makes them all the more eager to try it. The fact that this product has been banned has created a kind of weird viral marketing campaign for it – which people are still falling for even today.

So are there any health risks associated with taking Spanish Fly?

Friends, the list is almost endless, but what we’re going to do is to list the most common and most serious side effects of this aphrodisiac, as a warning to any woman considering taking this “sexual stimulant”, even just experimentally.

Miscarriage: Spanish Fly has been used for centuries by back alley abortionist to terminate pregnancies, so any woman who is currently pregnant or trying to get pregnant needs to avoid this product like the plague itself. There is a very strong risk that using this product in even the smallest of doses could cause you to accidentally abort your child.

Kidney Damage: There are numerous verifiable cases of Spanish Fly causing severe damage to the kidneys of people taking it. This is based on the fact that the irritant contained in this product goes to work on your urinary tract causing inflammation and infection there, which then spreads elsewhere. If you do decide to use Spanish Fly, you should be prepared to visit the nearest hospital shortly afterwards.

Neurological Issues: Taking Spanish Fly in even small doses can result in anything from delirium, confusion and borderline psychosis to actual loss of consciousness. People who use this product often complain of not feeling in control of their own thoughts and emotions and, believe it or not, some people become so confused they actually start barking like a dog. So if you like the idea of developing potentially long-term neurological problems then Spanish Fly is ideal for you (we’re kidding obviously).

Frequent Urination: The irritation of your urinary tract will be so severe that you’ll literally need to urinate every few minutes, ruining any potential for sexual fun you might have been looking forward to. The most commonly reported side effect of using this product is that you constantly feel the need to urinate after taking it.

Digestive Problems: Within just minutes of taking a few drops of this “stimulant” you’ll begin to experience a burning sensation in your throat and then your stomach. The irritation can become so severe that it will eventually require professional medical assistance. Many people also report feeling incredibly thirsty, but that drinking any kind of fluid has no effect on this thirst, making it unbearable as a result.

Death: Large doses Spanish Fly can kill you – it’s literally that toxic. Most of the genuine Spanish Fly products contain a very small amount of a poison called strychnine, and absorbed in small doses this would make you feel extremely unwell. In larger doses however it will kill you very quickly, and what’s worse strychnine poisoning can be hard to trace except when it’s largely present in your body. So as you can see Spanish Fly is about as dangerous a substance as you would ever dare take, with side-effects so serious that you’re probably wondering why it hasn’t been banned completely? Unfortunately, human beings have a tendency to believe myth and lore rather than actual science, which is why rhinos are still being hunted for their horns, which is then turned into an aphrodisiac product for men, for example. Basically Spanish Fly will not only do absolutely nothing for your sex drive, but it can and will endanger your health.

The reason why you started reading this article in the first place though is because, as a woman, you’re struggling with your current lack of sexual desire and you’re no doubt desperate to find a way to treat this “problem”. It’s impossible for anyone to understand what it feels like to lose your sex drive, unless they’ve actually experienced it themselves. This sense of desperation is what drives so many people to try crazy lotions and potions like Spanish Fly to reignite the flames of passion in their life, and in their body, all over again.

I would like to close with this, always do well to read up facts about whatsoever drug, potion, pill or fluid that you might want to try out, so as to be aware of the risks of what you are consuming.

Finally, do me a fovour by following my blog and most of all share this posts with your friends on your social media platforms. Shalom!!!!

It’s so sweet writing stories in the dark deep at midnight, even as the periodic rhythm of the frogs breath into you the nature feeling, making the senses ready to express what comes from the inner pool of feelings. Sometimes putting an idea down could be really difficult, though it’s easy to float my ink on a diary, making marks and symbols whenever I found no suitable word.

In the heart of every man lies a story and this is what makes a man. Here is a special case of a child indigenous to the African race. It cuts across pain, sorrow, anguish, terror, molestation and survival in a society where he was never entitled to a niche.

He is a writer like me; Oh yea, he writes stories but his stories were written in his heart and no one ever got to read them like you are reading mine. Interestingly, the society wrote most of the stories and I guess his only contribution were his cries that followed every word written inside him.

People called him a bastard, although he was. His mother was a young girl with an envious career already going on for her in computer science at the prestigious Nnamdi Azikiwe University Akwa until one foolish (I will rather go with the word selfish) idea brought it down like a pack of cards. Just one night stand during the Christmas break, and the African child was encapsulated within her walls (Africa has fertile soil). She had died as a result of the trauma (I-can’t-believe-this-happened-to-me syndrome) five years after his delivery and he has been left to wander the streets of Akwa.

I looked at him as he moved from store to store begging food and I could tell what he felt seeing those store owners and their children staring at him and sometimes chased him off when he attempted to pick their left overs. He slept, bathed, fed, and lived on the streets. At the tender age of six he had already seen a lot that made him stout and never got scared. One will hardly believe he was actually fair in complexion but by just looking behind his ears, you could see the sun had seriously dealt much with him. The only moment he enjoyed was when he joined the other kids to play an improvised football, oh!!!! He wished it lasted forever.

Recently, he had seen a guy few years older than him who also slept on the streets as he did. This guy made ends meet by pick-pocketing and stealing from his victims during the day and retires to their place of dwelling at night with enough to help them both daily. Now, it was a nice idea to steal but what puzzled my heart was “will God judge him if he stole?” He began stealing but he wasn’t habitual, he only stole when it was necessary because he was hungry. One day he ran out of luck when he tried stealing (taking rather) fried potatoes from a woman who sold across the street. Unknown to him the woman was aware of his plans and as he dipped his hand in the tray, the next thing he saw was darkness.

I would really love to stop here because the writer is always the first to cry in any story. I will summarize in a moment.

The woman scooped hot oil with her spoon into his two eyes. Now, he is blind with no hope of seeing again. Quite exasperating. No treatment for him and no helper to assist.

Now he cries every day at one spot. I believe he cried the first day because of what that woman did to him and the rest of the days for what his mother did to him. The woman was meant to keep waiting for the right time rather than deliver the child into the arms of the dragon (society) Rev 12: 17.

“mama, I trusted you to know better when to bring me here. I felt more comfortable within the walls of your womb than I am now. When you forced me into this world, I thought you had better plans just to come here and discover your ruthlessness; you made no preparations for me whatsoever.

The society tossed me about as if I never suckled a breast as they did. It is true you gave me life but I preferred you had done it at a later age where I enjoy your stories sitting beside my siblings.

Daddy, I wonder the kind of farmer that would plant and run from harvesting. You are still planting whereas vultures are eating up the ones you have already planted. My pains and suffering are as a result of your lack of preparations and selfishness. Pleases plan well next time”.

I am of the opinion that every African child has the fundamental right that should allow him to enjoy a home with all necessary amenities for him to excel in life. It is an ideal I wish to fight for and if need be, it is an ideal I am ready to die for. While the society continues to battle crime, the same society continues to birth crime. I was opportune to have an internship with a renowned organization in Delta state and it wasn’t in my nature to live in a place and not observe the environment and its people. The cult activities, prostitution, ruggedness, militancy were as a result of one naive girl who failed to tell when the time was right to open her legs. It hits me to my chest when I see children from one teenage mother in their maternal home eating scraps from the waste bin. God formed the woman from the man and put in the woman potential children in form of eggs so she be courteous of who she intends to replicate into the world and the time she felt was right.  Remember, kings were birthed by women and the same women gave birth to thieves. The only difference between a king and a thief is plans made before their birth; a princess keeps herself and waits for a prince from another territory who definitely was prepared to receive an heir. The day we begin seeing ourselves as prince and princess then you will realize that we have potential kings to protect.

At this junction, I believe my readers have been inspired to carve out a new Africa were our children will always be a step ahead of us in our diverse endeavors. Be it as it may, I love Africa

The beauty of Epoxy Flooring cannot be ignored if you want a perfect glossy finishing in your homes garages, manufacturing facilities, auto workshops etc. They are typically used on concrete and steel to give resistance to water, alkali and acids. It is the specific selection and combination of the epoxy component and the hardener component that determines the final characteristics and suitability of the epoxy coating for a given environment. Epoxy paints and coatings are formulated based upon the performance requirements for the end product. When properly catalyzed and applied, epoxies produce a hard, chemical and solvent resistant finish. Epoxy paints and epoxy floor coatings, coatings are generally packaged in two parts that are mixed prior to application. The two parts consist of:

1) An epoxy resin that is cross-linked with

2) A co-reactant or hardener.

Below are some of the specific areas of application’

When it comes to the professional look of any commercial automotive facility, perhaps nowhere is it more critical than that of a fully operating automobile dealership. In today’s food industry, floor coatings are of paramount concern because flooring impacts an entire facility. Epoxy ‘s floor coating finishes are of the highest standards, and help to comply with industry guidelines for good hygiene practice and efficient production. Food industry floors are typically exposed to contaminants that can cause serious damage to concrete because of their corrosive nature. Additionally, these types of impurities can infiltrate uncoated concrete and wood substrates, resulting in the growth of bacteria and subsequently degrade processed food’s purity. Epoxy floor coatings offer a seamless, impermeable barrier that is easily cleaned and ensures a hygienic surface. The Anti-Microbial (-AM) is a line of floor coating products featuring an additive compound integrated during the manufacturing process. they are mildew resistant, resists mold fungus, resists microbial odor development and retards the growth and action of bacterial odors.
